MARGE 7th March 2008

Rose gave Bobby an old letter that our mom had written to her when Rose was married to Pete Muegge. Bobby gave it to me for safe keeping. The letter is dated Sept. 9, 1962. This is what the letter says: Dear Rose, Thought I'd write while I felt like it. My surgery appointment was postponed until Tuesday. The radium didn't get in. It was all prepared and then Dr. Murphy walks in and says "We got troubles". "No radium". Well, one day is as good as another but it makes my stay 1 day longer. I shouldn't complain I guess. All the nurse aide's and & my 2 doctor's tell me I really recovered from that operation fast & good. They are good to you here. It really is a good hospital but darn it I'm getting tired of hospital's. I'm getting homesick. If the radium has to be in 3 day's it'll be Friday at least before I get home. That'll make me 3 weeks and 1 day in the two hospital's. That's too darn long! Rose, I sure am glad that you & the kid's weren't with Pete. You would have un-doubtedly been hurt. Where all the doors would have been flew open the kid's would have been threw out on the road. Just Thank-God they weren't along and yourself too. I have a T.V in my room. Dad got it for me. It does help alot, but you even get tired of watching T.V. I do. I don't feel much like writing at all. I'm getting lazy! Ha! I don't have the energy to hold my pencil very tight and I can hardly guide it. Out of practice - is what's wrong. Bob went down to see Harvey while I took a bath. He's about out of time, so I guess I'll have to call him up and give him he--. Bob & Bobby were laying together last night and Bobby said, "Dad do those doctors ever keep any people til their real old"? He thinks they've decided to keep me. I guess. The poor little kid's. I hope they make out okay. They don't miss me 1 bit more then than I miss them & being home. I've got alot of nice cards from family & friends. Dot sent me a late Birthday card. It's sure got a cute verse in it. That card you sent is real cute too. Everyone laughs at those two and thinks their the cutest of all. Mom bought me a house coat. A real pretty one. The Methodist church bought me a gown. You can get whatever you want Rose. You don't have to do that. Well, Rosie I'm getting tired so will close for now. Write again soon. Lots of love, Luke P.S. Kiss those 4 little farts for me. close for now
